Protecting the Planet.

Working with ethical brands is something that is always high on our priority list here at Kubix. From metal straws to recycled clothing, sustainable furniture to locally sourced jewellery, many of our longest-standing clients are doing their bit for the planet and its people. So when ethical parenting brand Close Parent - the biggest retailer in the UK for reusable, sustainable nappies - came to us with a new web build project, we were keen to hear their story and get started.

Close Parent, set up back in 2004, made a name for themselves selling two of their own product ranges - Pop-in and Caboo. Whilst Pop-in is the title of their reusable nappy collection, the Caboo Carrier is the name of their unique baby holder, now the UK’s favourite soft carrying range. From washable bamboo wipes to reusable nappy inserts, Close Parent’s sustainable products are pioneering the way for other parenting brands, supporting WWF and other not-for-profit organisations by donating a percentage of their profits to charity. We knew that this brand deserved a website that would proudly demonstrate their ethical values, whilst still showing off their fantastic quality products. Combine this with a full website migration, and we had a sizable project on our hands.

Migrating from Magento.

When the Close Parent team first reached out to us, they were based on Magento 1 but had their eyes on Shopify for the future. After trying to replatform internally, they soon realised that what they were after required more than a simple migration and web build. Instead, the team began looking for Shopify Experts to take them onto the Shopify platform. We were first on their list. After some great introductions, our team built a close relationship with many members of the Close Parent family and work on their new website began.

One of the key milestones for this project was to introduce various additional features to the new Shopify store. The Close team had clear ideas for what they wanted their store to do, now that they were moving from Magento and could start afresh. One of these requests was for two types of descriptions on their product pages - a short and long version - to provide site visitors with as much information about their Close Parent products as possible. Our development team implemented new metafields on the product pages to allow for this, and every Close Parent product now comes with two types of descriptions. Many also show Key Features, Sizing and a How-To video guide for the Caboo range, demonstrating the best way for their baby carriers to be used.

Customer feedback was also a priority for the Close Parent store. Our team implemented Feefo reviews across the site, so that visiting customers could see product ratings and store reviews without having to go and search for them elsewhere. We also integrated them with BrightPearl, a retail software that specialises in sales order management, inventory levels and shipping, to ensure a seamless operation of their business from first orders through to fulfilment.

Settling into Shopify.

Now that Martine, Claire and the rest of the Close Parent team are fully settled into the Shopify platform, we’re looking forward to continuing our support and guiding them as they grow. Their team is always on the hunt for new ways to become a better brand for the planet, which is why this year they made conscious material changes for the products - moving to RPeT and bio laminated, to help improve their customers’ environmental impact. They’re certainly enjoying having full flexibility on the platform, and the confidence and power to change titles, images and announcement bars as they wish. Other app integrations such as payment provider Klarna are next on the cards for their site, so the future is looking very bright. Working with brands that inspire us is what makes our jobs so fulfilling. We’re very proud to stand by Close Parent and help them on the road to future success.
