Case Study
A whole new Shopify solution for this moth-busting heritage brand.
When people think of moths, they don’t often think of glitz and glamour. They especially don’t think of 1920s Art Deco. Yet when anti-moth brand Total Wardrobe Care first rang our offices and CEO Julia explained how proud she was of the brand they’d built over the years, our curiosity was ignited for this heritage-inspired moth-busting business.
With their signature pink stripes, illustrative script fonts and celebrity following including the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Elle Macpherson, Total Wardrobe Care was already the total package. What they needed was a Shopify migration from an old, clunky Wordpress system to let their unique product offering and customer service do the talking.

To capture the brand’s traditional yet whimsical heritage, our design team got to work gathering opulent Art Deco inspiration from a wide variety of e-commerce brands using this style. From theatrical illustrative hands to intricate line art and extravagant stylised content blocks, we used this strong 1920s theme to reflect the symmetrical wardrobe illustration that forms the original TWC logo. Not all of the elements were Art Deco, however. Given the naturally derived oils and fragrances used in their moth sprays, sachets and cedar balls, we also wanted to add some softer elements to the design, so subtle plant illustrations were featured on each page. As Total Wardrobe Care was due for a new product photography shoot, we also recommended natural light and as many plants in the photography as possible.
After showcasing concepts to Julia and the team, they were thrilled with the initial style and provided feedback in a very 1920s manner - simple pen and paper. Our team received their notes in the post (and a whole host of products to try) and translated them back to the big screen. It was then time for our development and operations teams to get to work on bringing the old Wordpress site into the Shopify ecosystem.

A bespoke design requires bespoke development, and many of the features of the design ended up being coded specifically for the site. From the 1920s inspired buttons which turn pink on hover, to the subtle pink underline on headers and design flourishes that frame every title, our team spent time ensuring the finished design was as close as possible to the original concepts. Even down to the bespoke cart button, every element had to be coded and branded up.
A more unusual challenge came from an unlikely source: their Chrysanthemum Moth Spray. Classed as a ‘dangerous good’ and therefore limited by UK shipping regulations, previously customers had had to ring up and place orders over the phone to have this moth spray sent out. By using an app called Intuitive Shipping and working with different couriers, our team was able to combat this and apply custom shipping rates to make this spray available to buy online.

Moth sprays aside, our Operations team also had many technical business requests to cater to. From a bundles app to setting up subscriptions, using Feefo for reviews and Shipstation for printing off labels and streamlining their fulfilment, we installed various apps and integrations to get their store working effectively. We also trained their entire team on how to populate their various landing pages and blog content and keep the website looking fresh for years to come.
When Total Wardrobe Care went live, Julia and the team were delighted at being able to expand and sell internationally and promote their product range more easily than ever before. Now that both Kubix and TWC are enjoying the long-term relationship that started with a simple phone call, we’re happy to say that Total Wardrobe Care is now totally ready for sales.
