My internship started a little differently than the rest of us here at Kubix.

I hate to mention the ‘C’ word we have heard for a full year now and readily avoid at all costs, but COVID really has had a huge impact on me and my future - which eventually led me on this wonderful adventure at Kubix.

Back in March 2020 I went to college as a normal day; three months deep into revision for my final exams. That very same night I was devastated to find out that all my hard work studying had been wasted. Our A-Levels, barely two months away, had been cancelled. After the initial shock, I began to enjoy the break that the lockdown gave me and used the time to analyse my future of potentially studying Law and the choices I was going to make in life. Skipping forward to Results Day, I soon realised I no longer wanted to go onto the path I originally was going to take. At this change of heart, I decided to take the leap of faith and talk to someone that was going to help me on my journey. I had to pick someone successful, hard-working and driven - all within the realms of my interests. There was one name that came to mind - and his name was Looay. Not only is Looay the Founder and CEO here at Kubix and very well known in the Cleethorpes area, he is someone with all of the above and more. After reaching out, we arranged to meet and talk about my situation. During the conversation he explained all about Kubix and the things that go on here. He mentioned the prospect of me coming and experiencing it all first-hand. I was over the moon and quit my job on the spot.

Now you’ve heard the back story of how I ended up in this lovely place, I’m now already enjoying life as an intern here at Kubix. Currently, there are two offices, one in Digbeth, Birmingham and the other just so happens to be in Holton-le-Clay, a Lincolnshire village and the place I grew up in. Some would say it was meant to be. Upon arrival on my first day, I quickly learnt the mindset of those that work here - and it's something I have never experienced before. The Kubix team places a huge emphasis on self-development as well as business development for the agency. As an intern, on the first stages of your career path this is exactly what you need and could wish for, this is one of the main things that stood out for me.

Not only was the focus on self development really useful for my journey into a marketing agency, but also the fast-paced, ever-changing work that everyone does here at Kubix is extremely eye-opening and something that I personally found fascinating with the likes of our Directors Peter and Joe who in particular amazed me, while working closely with both, with the work they do that is constantly new and exciting. Kubix has given me passion for the work I do, which for me is a must. Social media has always been a hobby for me and to be privileged enough to be doing something I love to do is the greatest thing from being a part of Kubix’s personal posts to sourcing influencers to work on campaigns for our clients. There is nothing more satisfying than results, and as a results based agency this is exactly what I got. Whether these results are small, like writing a piece for the Kubix blog or as big as attending a scoping meeting with a client and hearing they really like us and want to work with us!

As Covid restrictions relaxed, it was time for me to travel to the main office in Birmingham. For someone who has never been to Birmingham or experienced working life in the city, I was hungry for the opportunity and it was everything that I expected and more. Growing up, I had always believed that you become the closest people that are around you with their influence and attitudes slowly becoming contagious. Walking into the office in Birmingham, I was hit with a blast of fresh air from all the talented, business-minded people I met. I knew instantly this is what I wanted for my career: from watching the conversations in business meetings to observing the creative work that the design and communication team does, I entered a whole new world.

You always hear about companies with a great working culture; certainly the likes of Google and Microsoft first come to mind, but I never did think I'd get to experience this first hand like I have within my time at Kubix.

Whether it’s morning round-up games on Zoom, to being nominated as Champion of the Week. Each day is different and presents a new challenge and that is what I love from sourcing influencers for campaigns, using new applications and technologies through to meeting new talented people and getting to know what they do everyday - I have learnt something new everyday, which for me has been a huge privilege.

Returning from my trip to Birmingham, Kubix has given me a taste of what I know is meant for me and without this experience I may not have ever gotten this opportunity - for that, I cannot be more thankful.
