Laura’s Kubix Internship Journey
I started my internship at Kubix at the end of January, not long after I wrote an email asking if they had any work experience available. I had recently quit my job as an Design and Marketing Assistant for a chartered accountants, and have a degree in Contemporary Lens Media. I chose to write to Kubix because I knew what I wanted – to gain more design and marketing experience in a fast paced environment and above all with a friendly, outgoing and knowledgeable team. From my first meeting with the team I knew Kubix ticked all the boxes.
Before my start date, I wasn’t fully sure what to expect from an internship. Many of my friends had told me that I may be used a glorified tea maker! But from day one I never felt like an ‘intern’. I feel I have received the same level respect from everyone no matter their position or how long they have been doing their role.
I have learnt far more than I ever expected to in the three months I’ve been at Kubix so far. From creating social posts and campaigns with Bethany that are engaging and receive positive feedback, to developing my skills across the Adobe Suite, web design, Shopify and gaining an understanding of SEO and backend. I enjoy that the work is different every single day. One minute we could be working on a social post or design for a fashion brand, and next it could be doing website banners for a technology company. This means I am always learning new things and ways of working. Whenever I have needed help with a task everyone is always happy to take the time to explain or help in finding the solution.
Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Kubix so far. Getting up in the morning isn’t as painful when you’re spending the day doing what you enjoy and with people you admire, and I have even had unprompted comments from a number of friends and family telling me how my confidence has grown! Our director Looay sat me down the other day and offered me a fully paid position, and so it looks like I’m here to stay! I have learnt a valuable amount so far which I can take forward to develop my Kubix career. Although it was a financial risk for the three months, I believe it has paid off with the amount I have experienced and skills I have been taught. Bring on the next chapter!
Josh’s Kubix Internship Journey
Like Laura, I also started my 3-month Kubix Internship at the end of January and I couldn’t have wished for a better experience. I graduated university with a First Class honours in Digital Marketing back in September and for the next 5 months I was applying to countless “entry-level” roles, attending several interviews only to be told that I was a good candidate, but they had given the job to someone with more experience. I was even rejected from a 3-month unpaid internship at another agency on that basis – the joys of being a graduate!
Kubix gave me my first chance, which is something I’ll never forget and will always be grateful for. They knew I was inexperienced and would need a lot of training, but they saw the potential in me and wanted to nurture that. Over the last 3 months, I have been learning the ins and outs of digital marketing – particularly SEO – through online courses and have then been able to practically apply my new-found knowledge to a range of different clients. And I have actually seen results. The work I am doing is having a positive impact which is so cool!
I am now Google certified in Analytics, AdWords and Shopping. And I am constantly learning new things every day. There is so much to sink my teeth into and I have the flexibility in my role to try out new things and see what works. Although I’m being specialised in SEO, I’m not being pigeonholed into just doing that. In fact, I’m actively encouraged to broaden my skillset. I have even done a bit of development on the side, which is something I never thought I’d be able to do.
I genuinely love working at Kubix! The work itself is interesting and varied. One hour I might be doing some SEO for a website selling 3D printers, the next I’m managing social media for a luxury, industrial furniture making company. The culture here is also awesome. The people here are so cool and they genuinely want the best for each other. And they are super talented at what they do. The agency is rapidly growing and new clients are coming on board every week. It’s just going to get bigger and better.
Looking back, I’m actually glad I didn’t get accepted for any other role I was interviewed for. I’m confident that I wouldn’t have been this happy or motivated about my career if I had. Even though this internship is unpaid, there is so much long-term value to it. I’ve learned way more here in 3 months than I did in 2 years at university. I’ve put the hard work in and I am proud to say that I have been offered a full-time position after the internship ends. I’m really excited about what the future holds.
Sharon’s Kubix Internship Journey
It seems odd to cast my mind back to my internship at Kubix, having been here for nearly a year and a half now! What a crazy journey it’s been. When I stepped into the Kubix office for the very first time early in 2017, I had never worked in the digital marketing industry. It seemed like another complicated, distant world. My digital experience was limited to a computer science degree and a few Google exams and so I was searching far and wide for a company which would give me a chance to learn. I’d tried a teaching career but had found that it lacked the excitement and fast pace that I craved for my day-to-day life. Eventually – thankfully – I found Kubix. And I loved it here from the moment I arrived. Looay and the team took me on after seeing my passion and before long I was on the payroll, putting my newly acquired skills to good use.
Throughout my time here at Kubix, I’ve watched the agency blossom and go from strength to strength. We’ve already moved offices once to cater to the expansion, and now we’re all set to head into our next building across the road! I’m so proud to have been a part of this journey, and as one of the first interns here I will always be grateful for everything I’ve learnt.
Life at Kubix is never dull. Over the past 15 months I’ve been able to experience working with brands both big and small and see the tangible difference that we make to their businesses. Job satisfaction is what keeps people in a role, and which is why so many of us are very happy to stay on and grow with the team. For anyone thinking of trying something new and jumping into the deep end of the digital world, an internship at Kubix could be the perfect opportunity for you. One of my personal interests is fashion, and I’m now lucky enough to be managing many of our fashion e-commerce clients and using my knowledge to help them along the way. To match the people, the passions and the projects is so important and here at Kubix it’s allowed us all to flourish in an environment that we love.
Mia's Kubix Internship Journey
My internship started a little differently than the rest of us here at Kubix.
I hate to mention the ‘C’ word we have heard for a full year now and readily avoid at all costs, but COVID really has had a huge impact on me and my future - which eventually led me on this wonderful adventure at Kubix.
Back in March 2020 I went to college as a normal day; three months deep into revision for my final exams. That very same night I was devastated to find out that all my hard work studying had been wasted. Our A-Levels, barely two months away, had been cancelled. After the initial shock, I began to enjoy the break that the lockdown gave me and used the time to analyse my future of potentially studying Law and the choices I was going to make in life. Skipping forward to Results Day, I soon realised I no longer wanted to go onto the path I originally was going to take. At this change of heart, I decided to take the leap of faith and talk to someone that was going to help me on my journey. I had to pick someone successful, hard-working and driven - all within the realms of my interests. There was one name that came to mind - and his name was Looay. Not only is Looay the Founder and CEO here at Kubix and very well known in the Cleethorpes area, he is someone with all of the above and more. After reaching out, we arranged to meet and talk about my situation. During the conversation he explained all about Kubix and the things that go on here. He mentioned the prospect of me coming and experiencing it all first-hand. I was over the moon and quit my job on the spot.
